One Day Until Japan

Hello and welcome to my blog! I head off for Japan tomorrow morning and wanted to make a blog for my friends and family to view while I travel. I can’t promise I will be able to update this on a consistent basis, but I will definitely try.

A lot of people have asked why I’m wandering around Japan for two and a half months, and while I don’t have a completely clear answer, the short version is that I want to challenge myself to see as much of the country as possible, speaking only Japanese.

I’m sure I’ll encounter obstacles throughout my trip, but they’ll be great learning opportunities and it would be mundane if everything went perfectly according to plan.

Moving on, a little about my itinerary:

I’m landing in Tokyo and will be spending the first 7 days there (looking forward to getting lost in Tokyo). I then embark on the “city-hopping” portion of my trip. Japan has 4 main islands, the largest of which (Honshu) contains the majority of its urban areas. From Tokyo, I am traveling west/southwest all the way down Honshu and into Kyushu, the southernmost main island.

I then circle back through Honshu and stay for a while in the Kansai region (Kyoto, Osaka, etc.). I eventually return to Tokyo for the last 2 weeks, but this is flexible in case I make stops along the way.

For my complete itinerary (including a map), you can check out the ‘my itinerary’ page at the top of my blog.

I think that’s all for now. I will try to post something in the next few days after I’ve acclimated myself to Tokyo.

Thanks for reading! I can’t wait to leave tomorrow, but I’d love to hear from everyone back home while I’m gone, so please feel free to post any comments or questions!

Thank you!
